A meeting was held with representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia Mr. Morii Satoshi, Head of the Political Section and staff member A. Khurelkhuu visited the “Billion Trees Movement” NGO, where they presented Japan’s activities, achievements, and contributions implemented within the framework of the “Billion Trees” National Movement, and exchanged views on future cooperation.

Over the past five years, Japan has successfully planted more than 50,000 trees in Mongolia and has provided environmental education and awareness training to approximately 20,000 young people.

Specifically, the following afforestation projects have been initiated:

  • In Orkhon Province, since 2023, 23,500 trees have been planted across 10 hectares;

  • In Umnugovi Province, since 2024, 7,400 trees have been planted across 10 hectares;

  • In Govi-Altai Province, since 2025, afforestation has begun with 19,100 trees planned across 10 hectares.

In addition, teams participating in the Japanese Youth “Friendship Tree-Planting Program” have visited Mongolia and actively contributed to afforestation activities. An exchange program for Japanese and Mongolian students studying environmental fields has also been implemented, with more than 90 students participating across three program cycles.

During the meeting, the parties agreed to further expand cooperation by developing plans to study, introduce, and promote Japan’s advanced afforestation and tree nursery techniques, technologies, and innovations in Mongolia, thereby strengthening bilateral collaboration in the field of environmental protection.
